PEACE EDUCATION & PRACTICE NETWORK (PEPNET)

PEACE EDUCATION & PRACTICE NETWORK (PEPNET) is a youth-led peace education and systems transformation institution founded on November 1, 2018, by Amb. Moses ABOLADE and a group of peace scholars at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The organisation was established to promote peace education and equip individuals and communities with practical conflict resolution and peacebuilding competencies.

PEPNET was formally registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC No. 156980) in March 2021.

Headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, PEPNET works at the intersection of peace education, conflict transformation, youth leadership, governance engagement, institutional strengthening, strategic communication, and social cohesion.

The organisation was established in response to the growing need for practical peace education, preventive engagement, civic responsibility, and healthier systems for addressing conflict, polarisation, misinformation, violence, and social fragmentation across communities.

PEPNET designs and scales practical peace education systems that help individuals, schools, institutions, communities, and governance actors develop healthier ways of learning, relating, leading, communicating, and responding to conflict.

Our work combines grassroots engagement with institutional partnerships to move peacebuilding beyond awareness into sustained practice, behavioural transformation, institutional learning, and systems-level impact.

Since its establishment, PEPNET has implemented peace education, youth leadership, governance dialogue, media engagement, and community-based initiatives reaching thousands of young people, educators, institutions, and community actors across Nigeria.

PEPNET increasingly operates as a bridge between communities, education systems, governance actors, media ecosystems, civil society institutions, and young people by developing scalable peace education frameworks that can be adapted across different contexts.

Today, PEPNET continues to strengthen its contribution to peace education, civic engagement, youth leadership, social cohesion, institutional transformation, and preventive peace infrastructure across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.

PEPNET is emerging as a growing African peace education institution focused on building practical learning ecosystems that help individuals, institutions, and communities respond to conflict more constructively and sustainably.

OUR INSTITUTIONAL APPROACH

Unlike traditional awareness-based peacebuilding models, PEPNET focuses on building practical peace education systems that can be institutionalised, replicated, adapted, and sustained across schools, communities, institutions, and governance environments.

PEPNET operates as a peace education systems institution.

Our work moves beyond one-time workshops or symbolic awareness campaigns. We focus on creating integrated learning ecosystems that help schools, educators, youth leaders, governance actors, institutions, and communities adopt peace education as a practical and sustainable process.

Our approach focuses on:

THE PEPNET TRANSFORMATION MODEL

PEPNET’s implementation model is designed to move peace education beyond awareness into sustained institutional and behavioural transformation.

  1. Engage

Build participation, awareness, trust, and grassroots connection.

  1. Equip

Develop practical peace competencies through structured learning and training.

  1. Activate

Support individuals and institutions to apply peace practices within real environments.

  1. Influence

Strengthen leadership, dialogue, policy engagement, governance participation, and responsible narratives.

  1. Embed

Institutionalise peace education systems for long-term sustainability and social impact.

This transformation pathway allows PEPNET to connect grassroots engagement with institutional and societal change.
