Climate Peace Circle: Community-Led Climate Security Training

21–22 August 2026 | Mpape, Abuja

Are you a young person, woman leader, community leader or active community stakeholder living or working in Mpape, Abuja, and interested in climate, peace, security and community development?

PEPNET is inviting you to participate in a two-day community-focused training under the Climate Peace Circle (CPC) CLIMPSE Project.

The training is designed to help community members better understand how climate and environmental challenges can affect livelihoods, relationships, peace and security, while building practical skills to identify risks, strengthen community resilience and take collective action.

Why This Training?

Climate change is not only an environmental issue. In communities like Mpape, changes in the environment can affect livelihoods, access to resources, health, safety, relationships and community wellbeing.

The Climate Peace Circle provides a practical space for community members to learn together, share local experiences, identify emerging climate-security concerns and develop community-led responses.

The training will bring together 30 youth, women and community leaders from Mpape to learn, share experiences and build practical solutions around:

• Climate, Peace and Security
• Climate Change and Human Security
• Climate-Sensitive Peacebuilding
• Conflict Sensitivity and Do No Harm
• Community Resilience and Adaptation
• Community Climate Security Monitoring
• Climate Advocacy and Policy Engagement

What Should Participants Expect?

This will not be a lecture-only training.

Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and knowledge, work together in small groups, participate in practical exercises and explore real climate and community challenges affecting Mpape.

The training will also introduce participants to the Community Climate Peace Circle, a local platform for continued learning, dialogue, monitoring and collective problem-solving.

Who Can Apply?

We particularly welcome applications from:

• Youth leaders and young community members in Mpape
• Women leaders and representatives of women-led groups
• Community leaders and influencers
• Members of community-based organisations and local associations
• Young people interested in climate, peace, security and community development
• Community stakeholders who are willing to contribute to continued Climate Peace Circle activities

Only 30 participants will be selected.

Priority will be given to applicants who are connected to the Mpape community and are willing to participate actively throughout the training and subsequent Climate Peace Circle activities.

From Community Voices to Community Action

Before the training, PEPNET engaged community stakeholders across Katampe 1, Katampe 2, Berger Quarry and Mashafa to better understand community experiences, concerns and perspectives around climate, environmental and security issues.

Join the Climate Peace Circle

This is an opportunity to learn, connect with other community actors, share your experience and become part of a community-led platform working towards a safer, more resilient and peaceful Mpape.

About the CPC CLIMPSE Project

The Climate Peace Circle (CPC) is a community-led model developed under the CLIMPSE Initiative, implemented by the Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET) with support from Building Blocks for Peace Foundation and GPPAC West Africa.

The initiative seeks to strengthen community capacity to understand, monitor and respond to climate-related security risks while generating community-driven evidence and recommendations that can contribute to climate, peace and security policy and practice.
