PEPNET Signs Strategic MoU with IPCR to Strengthen Peacebuilding and National Cohesion in Nigeria
The Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET) has taken a significant step toward advancing collaborative peacebuilding efforts in Nigeria by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).

The landmark engagement, held on April 13, 2026, brought together leadership and representatives from both institutions, marking the beginning of a strengthened partnership aimed at promoting peace education, conflict transformation, and national cohesion.

The IPCR delegation was led by its Director-General, Dr Joseph Ochogwu, and senior staff members, while the PEPNET team was led by its Executive Director, Moses ABOLADE, and team members, including Ifeoluwa Olukayode, Michael Onuja, Udochukwu Onoh Esq, Vincent ENI, and Jonathan SABA.

A Shared Commitment to Peacebuilding
In his remarks, Dr Joseph Ochogwu expressed strong confidence in the partnership, noting that:
“The work of peacebuilding requires all hands on deck, and partnership and collaboration remain the surest pathways to sustainable peace and development.”

His statement underscored a growing recognition that addressing Nigeria’s complex conflict realities requires coordinated and inclusive efforts across institutions.

Similarly, Moses ABOLADE reaffirmed the longstanding professional relationship with the Director-General and emphasised that the partnership is both timely and necessary, particularly in strengthening collective responses to evolving peace and security challenges.

From Relationship to Structured Collaboration
While PEPNET and IPCR have engaged in complementary efforts over time, the signing of this MoU formalises a shared commitment to deeper and more structured collaboration.

This partnership is expected to create pathways for:
* Strengthening peace education across formal and informal systems
* Supporting the development and assessment of educational resources
* Expanding capacity-building initiatives for youth and community actors
* Promoting policy dialogue and institutional engagement on peacebuilding
* Enhancing coordinated responses to conflict dynamics across regions

At a time when Nigeria continues to face increasing insecurity and social fragmentation, such collaboration represents a critical shift toward more integrated and sustainable peacebuilding approaches.

A Strategic Step Forward
Beyond the formal signing, the engagement also provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of immediate collaboration, including joint programmes, knowledge exchange, and alignment of ongoing initiatives.

The event also featured media interactions and stakeholder engagement, further reinforcing the importance of visibility and public awareness in advancing peacebuilding efforts.

Looking Ahead
The PEPNET–IPCR partnership marks more than an agreement; it signals a strategic alignment between institutional leadership and community-driven action.

As PEPNET continues to expand its work across Nigeria, this collaboration positions the organisation to contribute more directly to national peacebuilding frameworks, while ensuring that grassroots experiences and youth-led approaches inform broader policy and institutional processes.

Conclusion
The signing of this MoU represents a meaningful step toward building stronger partnerships, more coordinated systems, and sustainable pathways for peace in Nigeria.

It reflects a simple but powerful truth:

👉 Peace is not built in isolation; it is built through collaboration.
