Peace at the Core: How PEPNET is Advancing Peace Through Education, Practice, and Partnership
At the Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET), peace is not just a goal; it is the foundation of everything we do.

Since our establishment on November 1, 2018, PEPNET has been driven by a clear and compelling vision: to foster a more peaceful world through innovative peace education and practical, community-driven initiatives. We believe that peace is essential to sustainable development, human security, and social justice, and that building it requires intentional, coordinated, and continuous effort.

Beyond the Absence of Conflict
At PEPNET, peace goes beyond the absence of violence. It is an active process rooted in understanding, justice, inclusion, and reconciliation.

We recognise that lasting peace can only be achieved by addressing the underlying causes of conflict, whether linked to inequality, injustice, limited access to education, or broader social and economic challenges. This understanding shapes our holistic approach to peacebuilding, which focuses on five interconnected areas:

* Peace
* Education
* Security
* Development
* Governance

By working across these areas, we ensure that our interventions are not only responsive but also transformative.

Turning Peace into Practice
Our work is grounded in action. Through content development, capacity building, policy engagement, and mediation, we are committed to making peace education accessible, practical, and impactful.

We engage diverse groups across society, from young people and educators to policymakers and community leaders, ensuring that peacebuilding is not limited to theory but embedded in everyday systems and structures.

Flagship Initiatives Driving Impact
Our programmes reflect our commitment to translating peace into lived experience.

The Peace Education for Secondary Schools (PESS) Manual introduces young learners to key principles such as conflict resolution, nonviolent communication, and peaceful coexistence. By engaging students early, we are helping to nurture a generation equipped to build and sustain peace in their communities.

Similarly, the Peace Education Training Manual (PETMANUAL) provides educators and practitioners with practical tools for teaching peace across different contexts. It supports a deeper understanding of conflict dynamics while strengthening skills in mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation.

Using Media as a Tool for Peace
PEPNET also recognises the power of media in shaping narratives and influencing behaviour.

Through Peace Zone, our television programme aired on KAFTAN TV, we reach a wide audience with content that promotes peace, raises awareness on conflict issues, and amplifies the voices of practitioners working across Nigeria. This platform creates space for dialogue and ensures that peace remains part of the public conversation.

Our creative initiatives, including PEACETOL: A Literature Book for Peace and The Debate Arena, further engage audiences in thoughtful discussions around peace, leadership, and conflict transformation. These platforms encourage critical thinking and inspire active participation in peacebuilding.

Partnership as a Pathway to Impact

We understand that peace cannot be built in isolation.

PEPNET actively collaborates with institutions and organisations at national and international levels to strengthen impact and expand reach. Through partnerships with organisations such as the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Peace Catalyst International, and World Citizen Peace initiatives, we continue to share knowledge, build capacity, and scale our work.

These collaborations allow us to align community-driven efforts with broader institutional frameworks, ensuring sustainability and relevance.

Empowering Communities to Lead Peace

At the heart of our work is a simple belief:

👉 Peace must be owned by the people.

Whether through school-based programmes, community engagement, or training initiatives, we are committed to equipping individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to resolve conflicts, foster social cohesion, and contribute to development.

Peace, for us, is not abstract. It is lived, practised, and sustained through everyday actions.

Looking Ahead
As PEPNET continues to grow, we remain committed to creatively advancing peace through education, practice, and partnership.

Our goal is clear: to ensure that peace is not only discussed but embedded in systems, institutions, and communities, shaping a more just, secure, and prosperous future for all.
